Meet the Beav

Hi there! My name is dano, and between bouts of mental disease and playing guitar, I truly enjoy building stuff that uses electrons out of batteries.

I've played guitar for a long long time, but for the longest time never really got into stompboxes. In fact, I had a phrase I used for people who expressed affinity for pedals: "Dude, that's so gay!".

But then I thought it would be fun to put a LED in a pedal that lacked one. My friend James was visiting at the time and he told me how to do it. I wrote down some notes and forgot about the project. A few weeks later I decided to add that LED to that stompbox. I screwed it up nine ways to Sunday. After a string of emails, James finally had me up and running. It was quite frustrating for him. "Dan, I don't think you should do this as a hobby, you really don't have the apptitude" he said.

Two years later and the Great LED Incident of 2006 is but a memory. In that time, I've spent way to many hours on the interwebz searching for every bit of schematic and stompbox folklore I can find. I've built stuff and worn out 5 soldering irons. I've verbally assaulted an befriended complete strangers on forums. I have bins full of parts and a closet full of half-done projects. I build and I learn and I build and I learn. I can't stop--it's like a endless bag of Barbeque Fritos, yeah homey, try and put that mutha fukka down.

As February of 2008 approaches, so does the 2nd year of the strange experiment called Beavis. It has been a great ride so far, and I'm looking forward to another decade of abusing my readership with crazy projects and sloppy writing skillz.

As always, I welcome your comments, feedback and offers of cash or donkey pictures. I can't guarantee a response in anything less than 2-8 months but what the hell, give it a try.

This is my glamour shot from Sears. I asked for my money back. I didn't get my money back.
